Pollution problem in pulp and paper industries

Pollution control:
1. The odour can be reduced by stripping off light boiling organics in a stripping
column.
2. The non-condensable gases and light boiling organic containing fractions can be
led to a combustion furnace.
3. SO2 can be removed from exhaust gas by wet lime scrubbing or magnesium
oxide scrubbing process.
4. The effluents from spent liquor can be separated by filtration or sedimentation
or a combination of both can be employed.
