ELECTRICAL DIAGRAM

• Electrical diagrams can be used to make new

electrical installations and they can be used to
locate electrical problems and it will also be
helpful to modify the existing circuit.
• Electrical diagrams are used to troubleshoot
the problems and to make sure that all
connections are correct.
TYPES OF
ELECTRICAL
DIAGRAM
1. SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM

• It is a representation of the elements of a system

using abstract, graphic symbols rather than realistic
pictures.

• A schematic usually omits all details that are not

relevant to the information the schematic is intended
to convey, and may add unrealistic elements that aid
comprehension.

2. ONE-LINE DIAGRAM

• It is mostly used in an industrial power system. Mostly

single line diagrams are used to represent the complex
power system, these diagrams will show all the electrical
components in the power system and their
interconnections.

• A one-line diagram or single-line diagram is a

simplified way to represent a three-phase power system.
• One-Line diagrams do not show the exact electrical
connections of the circuits.
• As the name suggests, one-line diagrams use a single
line to represent all three phases. It is the most basic
type of electrical print.
• It may show ratings and sizes of electrical equipment
and circuit conductors as well as the protective
devices.
2. ONE-LINE DIAGRAM
3. LADDER DIAGRAM

• It is a diagram that shows the function of an electrical circuit

using electrical symbols. It does not show the actual locations
of the components.
• Ladder diagrams are specialized schematics commonly used to
document industrial control logic systems.
• They are called “ladder” diagrams because they resemble a
ladder, with two vertical rails (supply power) and as many
“rungs” (horizontal lines) as there are control circuits to
represent.

4. WIRING DIAGRAMS

 A wiring diagram is drawn by using symbols, these symbols

represent the devices of an electrical control panel.

 It is use electrical symbols like the ladder diagram but they try
to show the actual locations of the components. Wiring
diagrams may also be referred to as connection diagrams.
Wiring diagrams help you identify wires and components as
they are found on the equipment.
5. PICTORIAL DIAGRAM

• The simplest diagram.

• It shows a picture or sketch of the various
components of a specific system and the
wiring between these components.

6. BLOCK DIAGRAM

It is a system diagram in which the principal parts

or functions are represented by blocks connected by
lines that show the relationships of the blocks. They
are heavily used in engineering in hardware design,
electronic design, software design, and process flow
diagrams.
Block diagrams are typically used for higher level, less
detailed descriptions that are intended to clarify overall
concepts without concern for the details of implementation.

7. ACTUAL DIAGRAM
• It is a simple visual representation of the physical
connections and physical layout of an electrical system
or circuit. It shows how the electrical wires are
interconnected and can also show where fixtures and
components may be connected to the system.

• It shows the components of the circuit as simplified

shapes, and the power and signal connections between
the devices.
