The Special Program in Journalism (SPJ)


develops learners with the skills and talent in
print, broadcast, and online media. The Program
privileges to have meaningful and rich
experiences required to land a prolific career in
journalism.

PROGRAM STANDARDS

The learners demonstrate understanding of the


underlying principles and theories of journalism, its
practices and techniques, and responsibly apply
these as tools for effective communication and
information.
LEARNING STANDARDS (English)
Grades 4-6 - The learners demonstrate understanding of the basic
principles and concepts of journalism, its practices and techniques,
and responsibly apply these as tools for effective communication of
news and information.

Grade 7 - The learners demonstrate understanding of the basic


principles, theories, practices, and techniques of journalism, its
history, and legal and ethical standards by producing newsletters
responsive to individual, school, community, societal, and national
needs.
Grade 8 - The learners demonstrate understanding of the
advanced and broader applications of the concepts and
techniques of journalism by producing an eight-page printed
or online news publication responsive to individual, school,
community, societal, and national needs.

Grade 9 - The learners demonstrate understanding of the


practices, techniques, and fundamentals of journalism by
producing radio news programs in response to individual,
school, community, societal, national, and global needs.
Grade 10 - The learners demonstrate
understanding of the practices, techniques, and
fundamentals of journalism by producing TV news
programs in response to individual, school,
community, societal, national, and global needs.
LEARNING STANDARDS (Filipino)
Grades 4-6 - Naipapamalas ng mag-aaral ang
pagkaunawa sa mga pangunahing batayan at konsepto ng
pamamahayag, kinagawian at pamamaraan bilang
instrumento para sa responsableng paggamit nito tungo sa
epektibong paghahatid ng balita at impormasyon.
Grade 7 - Naipapamalas ng
mag-aaral ang pagkaunawa sa pangunahing batayan,
teorya , mga kinagawian at pamamaraan sa
pasulat na pamamahayag, kasaysayan, legal at etikal na
pamantayan sa pamamagitan ng pagbuo ng mga sulat-
pambalita na tumutugon sa pangangailangang pang-
indibidwal, pampamayanan, panglipunan at pandaigdigan.
Grade 8 - Naipapamalas ng mag-aaral ang
pagkaunawa sa mas mataas na antas at mas malawak na
paggamit ng mga konsepto at pamamaraan ng pasulat na
pamamahayag sa pamamagitan ng pagbuo ng walong
pahinang dyaryo , pasulat o onlayn ,na tumutugon sa
pangangailangang pang-indibidwal, pampamayanan,
panglipunan at pandaigdigan.
Grade 9 - Naipapamalas ng mag-aaral ang pagkaunawa sa mga
kinagawian, pamamaraan at pinakamahalagang bahagi ng pasalitang
pamamahayag sa pamamagitan ng balitang pangradyo bilang sagot
sa pangangailangang pampersonal, pampaaralan at pampamayanan.

Program Expansion/ Partnerships and Linkages

School heads may consider the following measures in preparation for the
future expansion of the program:
Strengthen tie-up with print, broadcast, and online media outlets;
Initiate community-based extension services or industry immersion
partnerships; and
Seek support from government and non-governmental organizations as
well as from industry and business sectors.
• Sustain the participation of all learners to develop a sense of
commitment in the program;

• Monitor and evaluate regularly the implementation of SPJ
