Irrawaddy Dolphins

Habitat: coastal areas in South and

Southeast Asia, and in three rivers: the
Ayeyarwady, the Mahakam and the
Mekong.
Why? 1) pollution of rivers and oceans
2) noise pollution from high-speed
vessels 3) public aquaria 4) blast fishing
were once common in Vietnam and
Thailand 5) gill nets 6) overfishing 7)
construction of dams 8) tourism
Conservation
- Establishing core conservation
areas where gillnetting is
banned or severely restricted.
- No-fishing zones (no-take
zones) in areas where dolphins
are still found.
- Focusing on restoring and
protecting natural habitats like
estuaries and rivers where
dolphins occur.
Asian Elephants

Habitat: Asian Forests

Why?
1) pollution of water
2) expansion of agricultural
land and plantations of
eucalyptus
3) poaching
Conservation

- Supporting the
ban of the ivory
trade, ethical
tours, elephant
sanctuaries.
- Events
Snow leopards

- Snow leopards live in the mountainous

regions of central and southern Asia.
(a large part of the western Himalayas)
- Why? 1) poaching and illegal trade of
skins and body parts 2) Greenhouse
gas emissions will likely cause a shift
of the treeline in the Himalayas and a
shrinking of the alpine zone, which
may reduce snow leopard habitat by
30%
