What is Occupational Asthma?
Some substances can
cause allergies if you
breathe them in. They
are called sensitisers.
They can cause
permanent damage to
your nose, throat and
lungs.

What is Occupational Asthma?
Once sensitised, further
exposure will result in
asthmatic symptoms -
 wheezing
 coughing
 tightness of chest
 breathlessness
 runny eyes & nose

What Causes it?
 Isocyanates Spray painters, foam & insulation workers

 Animal antigens Laboratory animal workers


 Anhydrides Plastic industry workers
 Paper dust Librarians, bookkeeper, post office clerk
 Fluxes Electronic workers
 Metals Welders, metal plating workers
 Flour Bakers, millers
 Wood dust Carpenters, saw mill workers
 Drugs Pharmaceutical workers
