Present Simple
• We use the present simple to talk about things
in general. We use it to say that something
happens all the time or repeatedly, or that
something is true in general:

• The earth goes round the sun.


• I usually drink coffee in the mornings.
• The restaurant opens at 7.30 in the morning.
How to form the Present Simple Conjugation:

(yo trabajo) I work

(tu trabajas) You work

(el/ella trabaja) He/she/it works

(nosotros/as trabajamos) We work

(ellos/as trabajan)
They work
Rules!

• Rule 1: When the word ends in -s/-ss/-


sh /-ch/-x , the ending is -es
(the verbs ‘go’ and ‘do’ also take the -es ending)

She teaches biology.


He goes away in the weekends.

• Rule 2: For verbs ending in consonant plus


-y, change –y to –i and add es:

She studies english in the afternoon
