PONOROGO, KOMPAS.com- The Regent of Ponorogo,
Sugiri Sancoko, stated that the cases of hundreds of pregnant
children out of wedlock that occurred in Ponorogo, East Java
were relatively low compared to other regions.
 ELBORATION
Based on data from the Ponorogo Religious Court, 125
applicants for early marriage dispensation were granted for
reasons of pregnancy and childbirth.
In addition, the court also granted 51 children who asked
for dispensation to marry on the grounds of dating. In total there
were 176 applications for early marriage dispensation that were
granted.

"Indeed, we do not deny that Ponorogo does exist. Yes, there
is. But compared to neighboring districts, we are much lower.
Compared to Trenggalek, Malang, Jember and Bojonegoro, we
are lower," said Sugiri last Monday (16/1/2023)
The man who is familiarly called Kang Giri stated that the
case of hundreds of children who got pregnant out of wedlock
was a chore for the Ponorogo Regency Government.
 For this reason, the Ponorogo Regency Government will hold
a coordination meeting (rakor) together with cross-sectors to find
solutions to this problem.
"Based on this viral case, we won't appear much more next
year. If the numbers do appear, they shouldn't be as significant as
that," explained Kang Giri.
Kang Giri said that the change in the minimum age when
getting married from 16 years to 19 years in the law raises
another issue. One of them is the emergence of unregistered
marriages that are carried out by parents and children.
 When the child is pregnant, said Kang Giri, the parents will apply for
a dispensation to the religious court.
"When you are pregnant, you ask for dispensation from the Religious
Court. So it's not just getting pregnant out of wedlock or adultery. But
there are new variants, for example, if you are both happy because they
are not yet 19 years old, then the marriage is legally religious, then after
pregnancy you are asked to dispensate from the religious court . This
happens a lot," said Giri.
To suppress this case, the Ponorogo Regency Government will map
out which areas are where there are many cases of children getting
pregnant before marriage.
