• He created the game Mintonette.
• He borrowed net from the tennis and raised it
6 feet and 6 inches above the floor, just
average man’s head.
• During the demonstration game, someone
remarked to Morgan that the players seemed
to be volleying the ball back and forth over
the net, and perhaps “Volleyball” would be
more descriptive name of sports. In 1896,the
Mintonette was changed to Volleyball.
• On July 7, 1896 at Springfield College the first
game of volleyball was played. In 1900, a special
ball was designed for the sports.

• By the late 1910s the sport had grown in


popularity, and it spread globally through
American troops stationed overseas in World War
I. The sport became highly competitive worldwide,
which led to the acceptance of a set of official
rules and regulations that paved the way to
Olympic adoption. Volleyball was introduced to
the Olympic Games in 1964.
