PRAYER
Lord God, thank you so much for giving us another day to study and prepare for
a good life in the future. Thank you for giving us the chance to continue learning
amidst the pandemic which caused a lot of changes in our lives.
Bless our parents who work hard to support us. Bless our teachers who are doing
their best to inspire and guide us especially in these trying times. Bless our country
who continue fighting to stop the pandemic.
Lord, fill us with your wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Give us good
memory so that we might understand and remember what we are going to study now.
These we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

AMEN.

Lesson 1:
Effect of Changes in
Temperature in Food and
Medicine
Temperature greatly affect materials because it can
make food and medicine spoil/ damage, or it can make
food and medicine fresher.

Here are some tips in storing material such as food and

medicine, in order to avoid the rapid change that may
cause damages to the material.
Basic Storage of Food

● Never allow meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, or produce or

other foods that require refrigeration to sit at room
temperature for more than two hours—one hour if the
air temperature is above 90°F. This also applies to items
such as leftovers, "doggie bags," and take-out foods.
Basic Storage of Food

● Keep your appliances at the proper temperatures. Keep the

refrigerator temperature at or below 40°F (4°C). The freezer
temperature should be 0°F (-18°C).

● Check storage directions on labels. Many items other than

meats, vegetables, and dairy products need to be kept cold.

● Following the other recommended food handling practices

(clean your hands, surfaces and produce, separate raw foods
from ready-to-eat foods, and cook to safe temperatures) will
further reduce your risk of getting sick.
Storage of Medication

● You need to know the recommended storage condition-

from room temperature, to refrigeration, to freezing.

● Best to avoid the bathroom medicine cabinet, since the

heat and moisture from your shower, bath, and sink may
damage your medicine.

● Advisable to avoid the kitchen, since heat from the stove,

sink, and any hot appliances can also damage your
medicine.
Storage of Medication

● A medication that should be stored at room

temperature means between 15°C to 25°C; cool
temperature means between 8°C to 15°C;
refrigeration means between 2°C to 8°C; and
freezing temperature means -10°C to -25°C.
Transportation of food and medicine takes temperature and moisture
into consideration. Changes in temperature or moisture damages food
and medicine, this sometimes happen during transportation of
food/medicine.

Even though this happens, it could still be beneficial to us, we can use
it on our backyard as fertilizer and drop off the unused medicine at a
drug take back site, location, or program to avoid
environmental contamination and hazard effect on us.
