Driving
INTRODUCTION
Driving is something most of us do
everyday. It has become so much part of
our daily life that we treat it most casually.
When we get behind the wheel, we are all
100% confident that we are good, safe
drivers who can handle any situation! We
all think that we recognize hazards,
understand what to do and exercise
proper control to avoid the hazard!
However, The facts are
DIFFERENT!!!
 Motor vehicles accidents occur everyday
 Many people suffer crippling injuries
everyday due to motor vehicular accidents.
 Many lives are lost everyday due to
automobile accidents.
Millions of dollars worth property is lost
daily due to accidents.
 Rough estimate suggests that about 12
Million people either die or suffer serious
injuries due to Road Traffic Related
Accidents Every Year!
 That is, roughly 32,877 casualties daily
 Which again works out to be 23 people
dying or suffering crippling injury per
minute.

FRIGHTENING ISN’T IT?

Good News is that all this can be reduced if
not totally eliminated. To Achieve this simple
goal, we all must remember some basic points,
every time we get behind a steering wheel.
• Drive with Total Concentration
• Respect for the road Hazards
• Expect the Unexpected
• Avoid Complacency at all times
PREPARING TO
DRIVE
Before attempting to
drive, you must:
 Know the rules of the road
 Know your vehicle and its
controls
 Make sure that your vehicle is
safe to drive
DEFENSIVE DRIVING
Remember, defensive driving is for defending
yourself against possible accidents that may
be caused by:

• Poor Weather
• Heavy Traffic
• Bad Drivers
• Road Rage
• Unexpected Factors
Intersections/Junctions
Most crasher occur at road intersections than
any other places. Be very careful when
approaching any intersection/junction.
• Reduce your speed while approaching the
intersection.
• Look both ways and be ready to brake or stop.
• Do not pass or change lanes.
• Beware of vehicle/s behind you. Will they be able
to stop if necessary?
Safety Belts
Even Today many people do not wear them!!!
It is a fact that safety belts do save lives and
prevent serious injuries.

In a crash, safety belts:

• Keep you from being
thrown from the vehicle.
The risk of death is five
times greater if you are
thrown from a vehicle in
a crash.
Continue… • Keep you from being
thrown against parts of
your vehicle, such as
steering wheel or
windshield.
• Keep you from being
thrown against others in
the vehicle.
• Keep the driver behind
the wheel, where he has
better chance of controlling
the vehicle.
SPEED LIMITS
All drivers must never drive faster than is safe for
the present conditions, regardless of the posted speed
limit.
The maximum speed limit on most highways is 120
km/hr. other speed limits are set for the type of
roads and traffic in each area. All speed limits are
based on ideal driving conditions.
If you are driving slower than other normal traffic,
do not use the left lane or the middle lane. Move to
the right lane.
REMINDERS
• While Cars bring tremendous
convenience to our lives, they can
be killers too
•Every accident is preventable.
