 Hand tools shall be used only for the purpose they were
designed
 Do not improvise with the wrong tool
 Always wear safety goggles when using hand tools

Tools storage and carrying
 Racks, shelves, or tool boxes shall be provided for storing tools which are not in use
 When personnel use hand tools while they are working on ladders, scaffolds, platforms,
or work stands, they shall use carrying bags for tools which are not in use
 Sharp tools shall be stored with their blades/edges protected to avoid accidental contact

Hand tool maintenance
 Tools shall be kept free from grease, moisture, and chemicals to
prevent damage and corrosion
 Hand tools shall be regularly inspected for defects and when
necessary kept in good repair and maintained by qualified
personnel.
 Tools must be scrapped if worn or damaged beyond repair.

Housekeeping

 Tool shall not be left lying around where personnel have to pass
(especially on elevated work platforms where they might fall on
person below).
