COMPENSATION
ACT 1923
Meaning of Accident
 The word accident, as used in the
workmen’s compensation act, means an
unlooked for mishap or an untoward event
which is not expected or designed.
Injury by accident
 It includes any injury not expected or
designed by the injured workman himself.
Disablement

 Disablement means a loss or reduction of


earning power or capacity for work and
includes inability to get work if that be the
result of the accidental injury.
Kinds of disablement
 Partial disablement
Temporary
Permanent
 Total disablement
Injury Arising out of and in the
course of employment
 An injury which was the cause of an
accident to the workman was a part of the
employment to hazard to suffer or to do.
 A workmen in order to claim
compensation must show that he was at
that time of the injury engaged in the
business of the employer and he was not
doing something for his own benefit.
Compensation to a workman for
personal injury
 Employer liable
 Employer not liable
