Human rights are standards that recognize and protect the dignity of all human beings.
Human rights govern how individual human beings live in society and with each other, as
well as their relationship with the State and the obligations that the State have towards them
. . These include the right to life, the right to a fair trial, freedom from torture and other
cruel and inhuman treatment, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the rights to
health, education and an adequate standard of living
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO PROTECT HUMAN
RIGHTS?
• Human rights are needed to protect and preserve every individual's humanity, to ensure
that every individual can live a life of dignity and a life that is worthy of a human
being. Question: Why "should" anyone respect them? Fundamentally, because everyone
is a human being and therefore a moral being.
