1) Anaximander (610-546 BCE) was a pre-Socratic
Greek philosopher, geographer, biologist, and
astronomer.. He provided a round map divided into
three continents (Europe, Asia, and Libya.)
surrounded by an ocean.
2) Eratosthenes (276-194 BCE), using a geometry,
became the first to have calculated accurately the
circumference of Earth is being 40 233 kilometers.
His figure was only 151 kilometers off the current
measurement done using satellite technology.
3) Ptolemy (100-178 BCE) One of his most important
contributions to geography was the formulation of
map coordinates by utilizing and developing the
concepts of latitude and longitude.
4) IBN Battuta (1304-1368 CE) was a Morocan
Explorer who published his 30-year journey in his
book Journey. He traveled farther and longer than
Marco Apolo by visiting all the places in the known
Muslim world, as well as non-Muslim lands.
5) Carl Ritter (1779-1859), a German geographer.
