Social work is often underrated

despite its great impact to peoples
lives. Part of the challenge of this
profession is the many roles that
have to be played.
Who is a client?

Not everyone who approaches a

social worker for help is a client.

client is someone who makes an
explicit agreement with a social
worker about the purpose of their
work together. They agree to accept
intervention.
Those who need help but may not
necessarily seek it is called an
Applicants . They do not enter into
any agreement with SW to sove the
issue.
More often , a SW encounters
participant or resisters-people who
have been referred by a third party.

When a client musters the
courage to seek help from a social
worker, he or she forms expectations
of the possible result of their
meeting, session, or transaction.
