• His real name is Sadami
• Emperor Uda was the third son of Emperor
Koko and His mother was Empress Dowager
Hanshi, a daughter of Prince Nakano
Emperor Daigo
• He reigned for 33 years from 897 C.E. to
930 C.E.
• His real name is Atsuhito
• He is the eldest son of Emperor Uda
Achievements of
Heian Period
• Buddhism began to spread around
the Japan during the Heian Period.
• "Tale of Genji" by Murasaki Shikibu
was written during the Heian
period
• Was able to set the Japan's capital
in one place
• Buildings were like Chinese models
and some for public administration

• The Heian period was started by the Nara
Period and began in 794 CE after the
movement of the capital of Japan to
Heian-kyo (which is now Kyoto)
• As the military system broke down after
792C.E., local power holders again
became the primary source of military
strength
• Buddhism from China started to develop
in Japan as well
