INTRODUCTION:
Mental health determines how you think , feel and act. Good mental health is when you feel
positive about yourself and cope well with the everyday pressures. Nowdays, mental health
issues among university students is major growing health concern. Research conducted that
these cases of students diagnosed with mental health is rising. There are numerous mental
health issues that affect university students. One of the biggest issues among students is
depression. It is because of students are expected to go through a large amount of workload
during their studies. As a result, such students may develop stress, which affects their mental
health status. Therefore, students mental health issues should be solved as soon as possible.
CAUSES:

For decades, educators have recognized that the stress of medical school is a significant
problem. The causes of this stress on the mental health and well-being of medical students across
the four years of medical school have been well documented. Medical students consistently
demonstrate depression rates that are significantly higher than those in the same age cohort in
the general population. Not surprisingly, suicidal ideation is also a significant issue. In a recent
multi-institutional study, 11.2% of medical students reported experiencing suicidal ideation in
the previous year. Medical students also display high levels of anxiety. Collectively, these
findings are alarming, especially given the high rates of burnout, depression, and suicide among
physicians (Slavin et al., 2014).
CAUSES:

Slavin et al. (2014) stated that mental health problems in medical students are far more
prevalent than many people think. Its struggles come from various causes and have different
signs. The study cited various stressors for medical students, such as academic stress, issues
with work-life balance, relationship conflicts, poor student guidance or support, the volume
of information, finances, uncertainty about the future, lack of time to oneself, responsibility
and the need to be successful. Stress in medical students is stress caused by strenuous medical
programs, which may have physical and psychological effects on the well-being of medical
students. Excessive stress in medical training predisposes students to difficulties in solving
interpersonal conflicts as a result of previous stress.
EFFECTS:

According to Lipson and Eisenberg (2017), it has been demonstrated that mental health
is a crucial factor in a student's academic success. One study involving students at a
large public university in the Midwest found that depression had a significant impact on
grades, as evidenced by a lower grade point average among students that were
struggling with their mental health. This same study also found that depression
increased the risk of dropping out by two times, even when considering prior academic
performance and other variables. It is important for schools and universities to
prioritize mental health and provide support for students who may be struggling.
EFFECTS:

Based on a study by Shankar and Park (2016), It proved that the mental health of students
directly effects the students learning. It is essential that we learn how to best support this
population given the rise in reports of mental health issues among college students so they are
able to learn and achieve. Given the mass of evidence showing how mental illness may
adversely effect student achievement and degree persistence, this is especially important.
There may be support that can be offered in the classroom that are integrated into current
procedures and learning opportunities for all children in order to best serve this expanding
group. The relationship between learning and mental health is addressed in this article, along
with takeaways for practitioners and suggestions for further research.
WAYS TO PREVENT:
It has been reported that poor acceptance of personal consultation for mental
health help has been a reoccurring issue among college students. This may be due
to humiliation fears, time pressure, and distrust of support services. Since it can be
accessible anonymously from any location at any time, new technologies have
made it possible for online mental health support platforms to be available, which
may be able to overcome some of these obstacles. In order to provide medical
studies that promote students' mental health, online programs might be a useful
tool. Lack of knowledge regarding current programs that are specially made for
students has been noted as a problem as the goal to create an online campaign to
encourage college student's mental health and so prevent the development of
mental diseases (Ungar et al. 2022)
CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, Mental health problem affects a lot of students and most of students
suffer from it. Also, there are some reasons cause students to have mental health
problem. Mental health problems can affect school performance and academic
achievement. When mental health problems are not recognized, students may be
unable to reach their academic potential.
