WOUND

 is damage to the integrity of biological tissue, including

skin, mucous membranes, and organ tissues.

 They often happen because of an accident, but surgery,

sutures, and stitches also cause wounds.

PRESSURE
WOUND
Wound pressure - This can be from a bony area on the body coming into contact
with an external surface which leads to pressure injury. These wounds represent
the destruction of normal structure and function of the skin and soft tissue
through a variety of mechanisms and etiologies.
The wound healing process is affected by various factors including infection, the
presence of chronic diseases like diabetes, aging, nutritional deficiency like
vitamin C, medications like steroids, and low perfusion of oxygen and blood
flow to the wound in cases of hypoxia and cold temperature.
Pressure ulcers result from long periods of repeated pressure applied to the skin,
soft tissue, muscle, and bone. In pressure ulcers, the external pressure exceeds
capillary closing pressure.
PRESSURE WOUND
ISCHEMIC
Ischemic ulcers (wounds) - can occur when there is poor
blood flow in your legs. Ischemic means reduced blood
flow to an area of the body. Poor blood flow causes cells
to die and damages tissue. Most ischemic ulcers occur
on the feet and legs.

Narrowed arteries prevent a healthy supply of blood

from flowing to the legs.
This means that the tissues in your legs do not get
enough nutrients and oxygen.
The lack of nutrients causes cells to die, damaging the
tissue.
CLASS 2

Clean contaminated: These wounds are still clean,

without any sign of infection and inflammation.
However, these involve the above-mentioned body
parts, which increase the likelihood of an infection.

VENOUS WOUND

Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when your leg veins don't

allow blood to flow back up to your heart. Normally, the valves
in your veins make sure that blood flows toward your heart. But
when these valves don't work well, blood can also flow
backwards. This can cause blood to collect (pool) in your legs.
VENOUS WOUND
Diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) health condition that affects how your
body turns food into energy. Your body breaks down most of the food you
eat into sugar (glucose) and releases it into your bloodstream. When your
blood sugar goes up, it signals your pancreas to release insulin.
With diabetes, your body doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t use it as well
as it should. When there isn’t enough insulin or cells stop responding to
insulin, too much blood sugar stays in your bloodstream. Over time, that
can cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, vision loss, and
kidney disease.
There isn’t a cure yet for diabetes, but losing weight, eating healthy food, and
being active can really help

DIABETIC
WOUND
CLASS 3

Class 3 wounds are considered to be contaminated. These

are fresh, open wounds that can result from insult to
sterile techniques or leakage from the gastrointestinal
tract into the wound. Additionally, incisions made that
result in acute or lack of purulent inflammation are
considered class 3 wounds.
04 Abrasion & Scrapes

Ahadain, Raisa
Abrasion Wound

Abrasion is a type of open wound that’s caused by the skin rubbing against a
rough surface. It may be called a scrape or a graze. When an abrasion is
caused by the skin sliding across hard ground, it may be called road rash.

Abrasions can range from mild to severe.

ABRASION WOUND
Scrapes Wound

Scrapes are wounds where your skin has been rubbed or torn off. Most
scrapes do not go deep into the skin, but some may remove several layers
of skin.

Scrapes usually don't bleed much, but they may ooze pinkish fluid. They
may bleed a lot because of the good blood supply to this area.
SCRAPES WOUND
CLASS 1

Class 1 wounds are considered to be CLEAN - They

are uninfected, no inflammation is present, and are
primarily closed. Example: surgeries involving the
skin (such as biopsies), Laparoscopic surgeries.

Avulsion & Contusion
Abduraji, Abdusharif O.
Avulsion Wound
An avulsion is a severe wound that can result in the partial
or complete tear of the skin and tissues. They usually
occur during violent accidents such as car crashes,
explosions, and other incidents that involve trauma. Apart
from heavy bleeding, some cases of avulsions can also
lead to the loss or dislocation of limbs.
AVULSION WOUND
Contusion Wound
Contusion is the medical term for a bruise.A
bruise forms when small blood vessels under the
skin burst. This is usually due to an injury to soft
tissues.
CONTUSION WOUND
CLASS 4

Class 4 wounds are considered to be dirty-infected. These

wounds typically result from improperly cared for traumatic
wounds. Class 4 wounds demonstrate devitalized tissue, and
they most commonly result from microorganisms present in
perforated viscera or the operative field.
To heal the wound you need to know and learn
how to clean it properly...
