Multimodal Transport

• Multimodal transport is the transportation of goods under a single contract, but performed with

at least two different modes of transport i.e. by rail, sea and road. This is done for making the process
fast and more efficient. It is also known as combined transport.

• A transport system operated by One carrier with more than one mode of transport under the control
or ownership of One Operator.
Application

1. Minimum mode Maximum efficiency - Though multimodal transport uses at least 2

modes of transport, the main focus is on optimum use of each mode of transportation.

2. One Operator ways of transportation - The owner of the freight does not have to worry
about the changing mode of transport, MTO (Multimodal Transport Operator) takes care of it
all. It is the process which is operated and managed by one operator.

3. Single Transport Document and Contract of Carriage - More modes of transportation

means more paperwork and documents, but in the case of multimodal transport it is different.
The whole process is carried out by generating just single set of documents and just one
contract which covers everything. It is an Internationally preferred and widely used concept for
freight.
Advantages
Advantages of Multimodal Transport:-

• Increased monitoring of shipments from stage to stage.

• Less time and effort
• Cost reduction
• Handling and delivery time efficiency
• Increased transport security
• One contract to keep track of
• Easier freight tracking
Cold Chain Shipment

Cold chain logistics is the technology and process that allows for the safe transport of
temperature-sensitive goods and products along the supply chain. It relies heavily on technology
to evaluate and accommodate for the link between temperature and perishability.

• Cold storage – Facilities that store goods and products waiting to be transported.

• Cooling systems – Systems that bring food up to and keep it at an appropriate temperature
during all aspects of the supply chain, including processing, storing and transporting.

• Cold transport – Ensures goods remain at stable temperature and humidity levels.

• Cold processing – Facilities that allow for processing goods with sanitation in mind.

• Cold distribution – Deals with loading boxes or crates and pallets to distribute goods.
Cold Chain Dispatch

• Temperature controlled dispatch encompasses the storage, preservation, and

transportation of products that are sensitive to temperature and other atmospheric
conditions.

• The aim of temperature controlled dispatch is to maintain a certain temperature for a

particular product. It is widely used for pharmaceutical products as well as meat, fish,
produce, and other perishables.

•  It ensures step by step dispatch of products with the help of real time tracking.
Cold Chain Monitoring
Cold chain monitoring refers to using internet of things (IoT) technology to continually monitor
temperature-sensitive products being transported in a “cold chain”—that is, a supply chain of perishable
and/or temperature-sensitive products such as pharmaceuticals, biologics, food and beverages.

Benefits of Cold Chain Monitoring

Quickly detect product temperature problems and minimize damage by troubleshooting or
rerouting payloads to refrigerated warehouses or dispatching crews to repair malfunctioning equipment.

Keep track of all cold chain products from a single technology platform, receive alerts when
temperatures breach optimal settings and take corrective action before product spoils.

Improve predictive maintenance, compliance, remote monitoring, fleet management, and predictive
quality and usage analysis by integrating sensor data with supply chain management, regulatory reporting
and other platforms.
