History of Valencia City

Valencia was formerly a barangay of Malaybalay, the capital of

Bukidnon. On January 16, 1961, it was separated and became an
independent municipality with Teodoro Pepito and Ernesto Garcia
as the first mayor and first vice mayor respectively. On January 6,
2000, the town was converted into a city by virtue of Republic Act
no. 8985 approved by President Joseph Estrada. Jose Galario, Jr.
and Leandro Jose Catarata were the first elected city mayor and
city vice mayor respectively.

The peace and order situation in the City of Valencia has remained
manageable. The crime incidents have remained low. The Valencia
City Police Station is conducting various police operations and pre-
emptive measures like mobile patrols, checkpoints, police visibility,
Oplan Bakla/Sita as part of anti-criminality campaign. We have
maximized our deployment of personnel in strategic areas with the
support of the Local Government Unit to prevent crime and ensure
public safety.
Issues and Concern
• Valencia City is the centre of trade and commerce in Bukidnon
due to its central location in the heart of Mindanao and its rapid
economic growth. It is normal that criminals are attracted to this
place where they can have opportunities to carry out their
criminal acts. The Valencia City Police Station have maximized
the deployment of personnel to address its limited strength. We
have also seek the support of the Local Government Unit force
multipliers to maintain of peace and order of the City of
Valencia.
