OPERTION ROOM
FERTILIZATION
 The action or process of fertilizing an egg or
a female animal or plant, involving the fusion
of male and female gametes to form a
zygote.
IMPLANTATION
 In humans, implantation is the stage of
pregnancy at which the embryo adheres to
the wall of the uterus
CONCEPTION
 The union of the sperm and the ovum.
Synonymous with fertilization.
 From the Latin conceptio, conceptionis
meaning conception, becoming pregnant
GRAVIDITY OR GRAVIDA
 gravidity and parity are the number of times
a female is or has been pregnant

 Primegravida
a woman who is pregnant for the first time
PREGNANCY
 The state of carrying a developing embryo or
fetus within the female body
 The carried women is known is pregnant
 It the time period in which an offspring
develop inside the uterus
GESTATION
 Pregnancy, also known as gestation, is the
time during which one or more offspring
develops inside a woman.
 Single pregnancy (one offspring)
 Multiple pregnancy
 A multiple pregnancy involves more than
one offspring, such as with twins 
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GYNAE
AND OBSTETRIC
 Gynecologists deal with female care
throughout a woman's life, from her first
sexual encounter to well after menopause,
 while obstetricians deal with all aspects of
pregnancy care.
 An OB/GYN is a physician who offers both
gynecologic and obstetric care and both
work to help keep a woman's reproductive
system healthy.
PARTURIENT
 Giving birth or pertaining to birth; 
 by extension, a woman in LABOR.
LABOR
 The process of expulsion of the fetus and the placenta from
 the uterus. 
 Stages of labor  
 Firststage
beginning with the onset of uterine contractions through th
e period of dilation of the os uterius ;
  Secondstage
 the periodof expulsive effort, beginning with complete dila
tion of the cervix and ending with expulsion of the infant; 
 Third stage,
or placental stage, the period beging at the expulsin of the 
infant and ending withthe completed expulsion of the
placenta and membranes. 
TRIMESTERS
 A normal, full-term pregnancy is 40 weeks,
and can range from 37-42 weeks. It’s divided
into three trimesters. Each trimester lasts
between 12 and 14 weeks, or about three
months.
 FIRST TRIMESTER
 Pregnancy date counting starts with the first
day of your last normal menstruation cycle,
and conception takes place in week 2.
The first trimester lasts from the first
through the 13th week of pregnancy.
 Second trimester
The second trimester (weeks 13-27)
 Third trimester
 The third trimester lasts from the 28th week
through to the birth of your baby
