Idolatry is the worship of false gods,
like wealth, power, fame, success, or
pleasure. Believing in magic, sorcery,
witchcraft, astrology, fortune-telling,
and Satanism are sins against the First
Commandment. It is also a sin when
we make things more powerful than
God.

Disrespect for sacred objects and places, and
also for persons who represent God is a sin
against the First Commandment. Worshipping a
symbol of the invisible God is wrong. God the
Father and God the Holy Spirit are invisible and
cannot be represented in images. But the
images of Jesus who became Man, of Mary and
the saints can be venerated.
 We live:

God gave us the First Commandment

for our own good. As children of God,
we are called to follow the ways of Jesus
in resisting temptations by putting God
who is the source of everything good at
the center of our lives.

In this way, it will be easy for us to follow

our conscience and fight temptations.
