3
Is natural gas considered as
renewable energy source or
fossil fuel?

4
1. SOURCES OF NATURAL GAS
• fossil fuel

• Renewable natural gas (RNG),

also known as biomethane

5
 RNG sources:
• Biogas from Landfills

• Biogas from Livestock Operations

• Biogas from Wastewater Treatment

• Other resources such (agricultural waste )

6
2. NG commercial forms

CNG LNG LPG

up to 3,600 psi propane and butane.

7
3. CNG stations

8
9
Is it preferred to fuel tanks with CNG at day
or night?!!
• The dispenser uses sensors to calculate pressure and
measure the number of gasoline gallon equivalents
(GGEs) delivered to the tank, taking temperature into
account.
• SO, the best time for fueling your vehicle is when you
need it.

10
4. LNG stations
• LNG stations are structurally similar to gasoline and diesel.
• Deliver fuel to vehicles at pressures of 30 to 120 psi.

11
There are three options for LNG fueling:

permanent
mobile containerized
large stations

• Because LNG is stored and dispensed as a super-cooled liquefied gas,

protective clothing, face shield, and gloves are required when fueling
a vehicle, and personnel must also be trained on fueling procedures.

12
5. Petrol Stations construction
• Petrol stations are busy places with lots of vehicle and pedestrian
traffic.
• They also store and dispense large amounts of hazardous substances,
especially flammable substances such as petrol, diesel and liquefied
petroleum gas (LPG).
• so, it's very important to have good systems and processes in place
to make sure people be safe.

13
 COST OF
CONSTRUCTION

• To build a petrol station you need at least 400

thousands dollars.

• Cost of petrol stations is based

on the area of the station.

14
 Construction considerations

• Engineers need about 3.5 months to build a petrol station.

• A petrol filling station should have at least:

1- The area should not be less than 1110 square meters

2- One underground storage tank has a minimum capacity of 5 m3

6. Profit of a petrol station
In Saudi-Arabia:

According to Sasco company, in September 2020, the profit of

gas stations was:
15 halalas / litre Petrol
 5 halalas / litre of Diesel

The highest profit was from supermarkets not from selling

petrol and the average profit was 20 Saudi riyal per one
customer

23
 In USA:

For gas station owners in the Northeast,

$69,000 annually on average.

In the West,
$60,000 annually on average.

In the Midwest,
$61,000 on average annually,

In the South,
$66,000 on average per year.

24
 FACTORS AFFECTING THE PROFIT:

• Location (high traffic location is better)

• Gas prices

• Amenities Offered:
Hot food (carry-out pizzas, hot sandwiches, etc.)
Snacks
fountains (coffee or soda)
Microwaves for customer use
Public restrooms
Dog-walking areas

25
7. RISKS AND SAFETY
CONSIDERATIONS

26
 RISKS
• Compressed air

• Vehicle movements

• Hazardous substances

• Fire

• Leak

27
3/7/2022 28
 SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

• There should be a piler in the middle in case of tanks in parallel to

protect the roof because any slope in it may affect the tanks.

• Tanks should be covered with a strong material that protect it from

corrosion, wet and water in the future if any problem happen.

• There should be a system that isolate vapors to avoid an explosion.

29
• Back-away valve

• Turn Off the Engine.

• Avoid Smoking or Lighting a Match or Lighter and avoid using your

cellphone.

• Avoid storing any extra fuel containers with you, especially inside your
car.
