cobas® 8100 automated workflow series, version 2

Creating a Layout: Types of Layouts, rules and Limitations,
When do you need what…
cobas® 8100 automated workflow series v2
Types of Layouts
1. Group Layouts - Each group consists of various Sub-layouts

Guidelines:
 1-6 Instrument connections with up to 8 TLJs
 Connected and Basic L-connections, and 2 nd Output Station at the end of the layout

 What differentiates Layout Groups?

a. Number of Connected Instruments
b. Number of TLJs
c. Position of cobas® 8100 & Instruments, based on the junction to which they are connected

 Does not trigger for new Layout Group

a. Change in direction of TLJ
b. Change in direction of cobas® 8100 & Instruments connection on the junctions

Simple L-Connections: SLR & SLL

Used to split the cobas® 8100 stations into a basic L-formation

 No pitch change or extra power are required
 Note: Default order of stations is mandatory (as for direct linear connected configurations)

Layout Components
Right and Left Connectors
 Changes the pitch, so the lines are symmetrical and close the loop for single holders in the conveyor area
Why would you need to close the loop?

Right Connectors: CRW & CRO

 Connector for the lines and junctions on the right side of the cobas 8100 ® stations
CRW: Supplies power forward
 How much can it power?
Up to 6 RFM’s & 11 Line/Junctions
CRO: What is the difference from the CRW?
 When would you use this component?
On the right side of a 2nd Output Station
Left Connectors: CLW & CLO
 Connector for the lines and junctions on the left side of the cobas 8100® stations
CLW: Supplies power forward
 When would you use this component?
Powers the connected (Output or Aliquot) station
CLO:
 When would you use this component?
On the left side of a complex split Input station

Page 13, © 2009 Roche

CRW: Supplies power to
the layout, closes the
loop and changes the
pitch
 Any combination of version 2 layout components that is within the guidelines is allowed between the stations

CLW: Provides power to

the Aliquot Station,
closes the loop, and
changes the pitch
CRW: Supplies power to
the lines, closes the loop
and changes the pitch

Connection Requirements: RFX - Bi-directional

XN Connection requirements to cobas 8100:

 Right side connection
 right to right rack flow from the front
lines
 Configurations including the following
modules are not approved by Sysmex:
TS 10, 500, 2000, or any 3rd party
systems (ex. Tosoh and Interrliner)

Responsibility of Sysmex
 Sysmex XN workflows and workflow
planning
 Connectability of the different XN
configuration options

Layout Design – Service Space Requirements

Minimum distance
between a wall and a TLJ
needs to be 70 centimeters
(also visible in the latest
Visio stencils)

Minimum distance in the

back of the c8100 needs
to be 80 centimeters (also
visible in the latest Visio Minimum distance in
stencils) the back of a BRF
needs to be 70*
centimeters (also
visible in the latest

* This distance is also required for some operator actions

cobas® 8100 aws v2
Layout Design Limitation 1
Example 1:

Length of the 2nd TLJ should be

TLJ1200 or longer when the 2nd
TLJ is connected to the straight-
end of the 1st TLJ with an RFM
is connected on the left-side.
 This is relevant anywhere this
occurs in a layout

PCBs in the 2nd TLJ cannot be

accessed if less than
TLJ1200.
TLJ 1 TLJ 2: TLJ 1200 or
longer
Impact if PCBs cannot be accessed: If the TLJ requires service; the entire system
will need to be taken off-line and the TLJ de-installed, repaired and the re-installed.

Layout Design Limitation 2
Example 1:

Length of the 2nd TLJ should be

TLJ1500 or longer when the 2nd
RFM is connected to the right-side
of the 2nd TLJ and RFM 1 is
connected to the left-side of TLJ 1.

 This is relevant anywhere this

occurs in a layout
RFM 1

Electrical components in the

transport line cannot be
accessed if less than TLJ1500.

TLJ 1500 or
Impact if electrical components cannot be accessed: If the TLJ requires RFM 2
greater
service; the entire system will need to be taken off-line and the TLJ de-installed,
repaired and the re-installed.

cobas® 8100 aws v2
Layout Design Limitations
Why may a TLJ not be covered by a Reformatter or other module?
There is an access needed to the electronics part which is only accessible from one side.

The door is accessible only from …and is opened using a hinge.
