Fiction

Historical Nonfiction
• The term historical nonfiction refers to writing that is both factual and
imaginative.

• Historical nonfiction broadly describes works that depict real-life

events. Biographies of historical figures fall under the historical
nonfiction genre. Based on factual events. Characters are often the
main characters and are real people.
Historical Fiction
• The historical fiction genre involves stories about real people or
events. A story may be set in a certain period of history or revolve
around a political or social event of the time.
• Historical fiction transports readers to another time and place, either
real or imagined
• Historical Fiction is set in a real place, during a culturally recognizable
time. The details and the action in the story can be a mix of actual
events and ones from the author’s imagination as they fill in the gaps.
Characters can be pure fiction or based on real people (often, it’s both)
Historical Fiction Vs Nonfiction

• In a work of historical fiction, the story takes place in the past, but
characters, actions, and other details are fictionalized. Creative
nonfiction, on the other hand, is a broad term that encompasses many
different types of writing. Creative nonfiction that covers the past uses
the tools of dramatization but does not fictionalize.
