1. LIKE (như)
Uses: LIKE dùng để thể hiện một sự vật/ sự
việc/hiện tượng/con người có điểm tương đồng
với sự vật/ sự việc/ hiện tượng/con người khác
Example:
• He is very like his father.
• She has a lovely room. It is like a Princess’s
room.
• Her books are like mine.
• This examination is difficult. It is like my previous
examination.
• My parents decided to celebrate a luxury birthday
party for me. It is like the one they celebrate for
my sister 3 months ago. 2

2. DIFFERENT FROM (khác với)

 Uses: Dùng để diễn đạt hai hoặc nhiều sự

vật/sự việc/hiện tượng/ con người không giống
nhau
 Example:
• You like pop music. I like rock music.
 Your taste is different from mine.
• I am interested in science books. My brother is
keen on detective books.
 My brother’s hobby is different from mine.
• Cost of living in Australia is really expensive.
Cost of living in Pakistan is low. 3

Uses: dùng để so sánh những sự vật/sự việc/hiện tượng/con người có

những tính chất tương tự/ không tương tự nhau .
Example:
• Dalat’s architecture is as ancient as France’s architecture.
• My father is not as busy as my mom because she has to take care of family
after working.
• City life is not as peaceful as country life.
• Our Math homework is as difficult as our English homework.
• My parents want me to be as talented as my sister.
• This painting is not as valuable as the Mona Lisa. 4

• My brother drives not as carefully as my mom does.

EXAMPLES OF REWRITING THE SENTENCES
• No one is as smart as my child in his class.
 My child is the smartest student in his class.
• This painting is not as valuable as the Mona Lisa.
 Mona Lisa is more valuable than this painting.
This painting is less valuable than Mona Lisa.
• His son is different from any students in his class.
 His son is not like any students in his class.
• Watching movies is not as good as reading books.
Reading books is better than watching movies. 5
