MODALS

Modal verbs, or simply modals, are a special type of auxiliary/helping verb that
change or complete the meaning of the main verb. They express different ideas,
such as certainty, ability, permission, probability, necessity, request, or desire.
They are also used to indicate the level of formality in a
conversation. Commonly used modal verbs include can, could,
may, might, shall, should, will, would, must, and ought to.
