Esau Sells His Birthright

29 Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was
weary. 30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew,
for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom. 31 But Jacob said,
“Sell me your birthright as of this day.” 32 And Esau said, “Look, I am about
to die; so what is this birthright to me?” 33 Then Jacob said, [h]“Swear to me
as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 And
Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and
went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. Genesis 25:29-33

So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father
blessed him, and Esau said in his heart, “The days of mourning for my
father are at hand; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”
42 
And the words of Esau her older son were told to Rebekah. So she sent
and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, “Surely your brother
Esau comforts himself concerning you by intending to kill you. 43 Now
therefore, my son, obey my voice: arise, flee to my brother Laban in
Haran. 44 And stay with him a few days, until your brother’s fury turns
away, 45 until your brother’s anger turns away from you, and he forgets
what you have done to him; then I will send and bring you from there.
Why should I be bereaved also of you both in one day?” Genesis 27:41-45
10 Now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran. 11 So he came to
a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one
of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to
sleep. 12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and
its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and
descending on it.

13 And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: “I am the Lord God of Abraham
your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and
your descendants. 14 Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you
shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you
and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. 15 Behold, I am with
you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I
will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” Genesis 28:10-15

Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this
place, and I did not know it.” 17 And he was afraid and said, “How
awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the
gate of heaven!”
18 
Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at
his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it. 19 And he called the
name of that place Bethel; but the name of that city had been Luz
previously. 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and
keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to
put on, 21 so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then
the LORD shall be my God. 22 And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall
be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.”
Genesis 28:16-22
25 And it came to pass, when Rachel had borne Joseph, that Jacob said to
Laban, “Send me away, that I may go to my own place and to my country. 26
Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me
go; for you know my service which I have done for you.”
27 And Laban said to him, “Please stay, if I have found favor in your eyes, for
I have learned by experience that the Lord has blessed me for your sake.” 28
Then he said, “Name me your wages, and I will give it.”
29 So Jacob said to him, “You know how I have served you and how your
livestock has been with me. 30 For what you had before I came was little, and
it has increased to a great amount; the Lord has blessed you since my coming.
And now, when shall I also provide for my own house?” Genesis 30:25-30
 Thus the man became exceedingly prosperous, and had large flocks,

female and male servants, and camels and donkeys. Genesis 30:43
6 Then the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau,
and he also is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.” 7 So
Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed; and he divided the people that were with
him, and the flocks and herds and camels, into two companies. 8 And he said, “If
Esau comes to the one company and attacks it, then the other company which is
left will escape.”
9 Then Jacob said, “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, the
Lord who said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your family, and I will deal
well with you’: 10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies and of all the truth
which You have shown Your servant; for I crossed over this Jordan with my staff,
and now I have become two companies. 11 Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my
brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and attack me and the
mother with the children. 12 For You said, ‘I will surely treat you well, and make
your descendants as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.’
”
22 And he arose that night and took his two wives, his two female servants,
and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of Jabbok. 23 He took them,
sent them over the brook, and sent over what he had. 24 Then Jacob was left
alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the [g]breaking of day. 25 Now
when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of
his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with
him. 26 And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not
let You go unless You bless me!” 27 So He said to him, “What is your name?”
He said, “Jacob.” 28 And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called
Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have
prevailed.” Genesis 32:22-28
-In this scenario, we find that it was not with Esau, his brother, with whom he had to contend,
but with Jehovah Himself.

-The great principle is that God cannot give victory to the “flesh”
-It is the broken heart that begins to experience what Divine Power means.
-It is better for the sun to rise upon the limping Israel than to set upon the lying Jacob.
-Jacob for his misconduct was exiled from the promised land, having nothing but his staff
without his God he would die in without returning to the promised land.
-He returns as a wealthy Prince but lamed.
-Jacob was cast out of Jehovah’s land because of his sin but return with abundance, but broken
and contrite spirit.
 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that
