The Quit India

Resolution

Start:
• In 1942 in Allahabad Gandhi spoke at a congress
meeting
• He believed that the British mistreated the Indians
• He suggested that the britsish leave indian because
then india would not be invaded by japanese
• He suggested the british leave on their own accord
• On 8th august 1942, the INC passed its 'Quit India
Resolution'
• The resolution called for the british to leave india  
Event:
• To support the campaign there was too be mass struggle on
non violent lines on the widest possible scale 
• The congress party was banned after 2 days and Senior
congress memboers along with Gandhi were imprisoned
• Widespread rioting for several weeks
• The British lost control of parts of the country
• The British used the strongest disciplinary measure eg
bombing and guns
• As a result thousands of Indian lives were lost and the
resolution declineed
Reasons for decline
• Because of the leaders arrest the protestors had no guide
• The ML did not approve of the Movement thus did not
help INC
• As they thought the INC would take over India after Ml
left working only for Hindus
• There was also a lack of clear cut programme of action
