ADAPTATIONS ACTIVITY 2 Catherine Ashley Somera 11 S T E M - R I Z A L A Pencil Attached To A Compass • A pencil attached to a compass is capable of drawing a perfect circle because it is guided. Like a pencil, I am capable to make the right choice because my family guides me throughout the way. Just like a pencil attached to a compass, I taught myself to trace my journey of becoming who I am today; to reminisce past experiences, because indeed, life is short; life is just a small circle-cycle, drawn by a pencil in a pencil compass. Furthermore, none of these will be possible without the compass’s pencil-like needle; the foundation f my life, God. Broken Pencil • Sometimes in life, the unexpected happens. You may say that a broken pencil may not be able to write again for it is broken, but learn to see the good in the bad. I am similar to a broken pencil, despite being judged on my outward appearance and feelings toward others, I continue to focus on what truly matters, which is to fulfill my purpose in this world to the best of my ability, similar to a broken pencil that is still functional despite being broken. It is in the tough times, on those bad days, and the inconvenient hours, that I get the opportunities to decide what I am really made of. A Newly Sharpened Pencil • To serve their purpose properly, pencils should always be sharpened, and as the lead of the pencil sharpens, the pencil itself becomes shorter. This situation exemplifies how progress necessitates sacrifice. In my 16 years of existence, I have yet to experience the sacrifices that it can cost me just to improve in life because I am still in the stage of life where I have a lot to discover and experience as a teenager, and I am looking forward to myself, having the bravery to sacrifice myself in improving in various aspects. And, as a newly sharpened pencil, I need to go through various problems to experience a painful sharpening from time to time in order to grow stronger. A Pencil With An Eraser • At the end of every good pencil is an eraser. When one makes a mistake with one end of the pencil, the other end can be used to immediately erase it. Correcting mistakes is not dishonorable, as the pencil teaches. Our lives our analogous to a pencil with an eraser. No one is perfect, but imagine how perfect someone’s life would be if there was an eraser that could erase all of our mistakes. I’ve always wanted an eraser because I don’t want to make mistakes in my life. Everyone wants to be as perfect as they could be, but the truth is that mistakes have always been and will always be a part of how we grow as better versions of ourselves. A Note Using A Pencil • A pencil is required when writing on a blank page. In comparison, without the presence of the pencil, I might not be able to express my resentments on a blank page. The paper represents me; I was once a naive child, and writing with a pencil colored my innocence. A pencil witnessed my creativity as a child, my struggles with schoolwork in elementary school, my resentments in writing in my journal and diary in junior high, and will witness my journey as a senior high student, university student, and my life in the future.
