OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
The main objective of this study entitled “Arduino- Based GPS Life Vest for Alabat -
Gumaca Ferry Boat Passenger with GSM Notification” is to:
1. To identify requirements needed to design and develop Arduino- based GPS life vest for
Alabat -Gumaca ferry boat passenger with GSM notification
2. To design GPS life vest for Alabat -Gumaca ferry boat passenger with GSM notification
with the use of Arduino IDE and Fritzing.
3. To develop an Arduino- based GPS life vest for Alabat -Gumaca ferry boat passenger with
GSM notification using GPS, GSM Module, button, Arduino Micro, case housing, water
proof cover, desktop and laptop were used in programming, debugging and testing of the
device.
4. To evaluate the level of acceptability of the device in terms of the following parameters:
4.1. Functional Suitability
4.2. Cost – effectiveness
4.3. Originality
4.4. Portability
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
The researchers focused on developing a device that is incorporated into an Arduino-

based GPS life vest with GSM notification for passengers on the Alabat-Gumaca ferry

boat. The researchers selected the passenger on the Alabat-Gumaca ferry boat as a

respondent due to the major problem of an unexpected water accident at the time and the

lack of immediate response in rescuing and saving the passenger's life.

The research was limited to marine transportation, namely ships and ports on Alabat Island.

The materials needed for the study are the following: (1) the Arduino IDE, (2) a GPS module,

(3) GSM Modules, (4) case housing, (5) waterproof cover and (6) a computer/desktop or laptop

for programming. The proposed system employs Internet of Things components to track and

monitor small boats from Alabat to Gumaca port. The device helps people stay afloat and

prevents drowning. It is required that cruise ships carry enough life jackets for all passengers in

case of an emergency. Lastly, it can send the information to the local rescue team if passenger/s

are in danger or have an accident once the button is pressed.

The study involves training in Computer Programming methods which features some

technical techniques in programming the device. However, the study is limited only to track

the passenger. Nevertheless, the study focuses on developing a device that can give the

passengers an assurance of their safety while travelling. The study was conducted during

the Academic Year 2021-2022.

Figure 9 shows the input-process-output model used in this study by the researchers to construct the developed device that is

incorporated into an Arduino-based GPS life vest with GSM notification. In the input, the specifications necessary to build the device

were specified in the hardware, software, and related studies required to run the program.

It began with the gathering of information from articles and websites where information gathered was all related to support the

problem of the study. Hardware and software were also considered. The researchers used the GPS and GSM modules to track their

location and send a notification, as well as the Arduino Micro, a micro-controller board having digital and analog input and output

ports, and Arduino IDE, a text editor for writing code. After all of the process's needs, such as content, had been met, the researchers

monitors the system's growth and development, and the program's enhancement was initiated. At the end of the procedure, all

adjustments and corrections were double-checked.

Finally, the output covered the completion and productivity of the application entitled Arduino-Based GPS Life Vest For Alabat-

Gumaca Ferry Boat Passengers With GSM Notification. The system was evaluated using ISO 25010 standards, measuring its

functional suitability, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and portability.

CONCLUSION

Arduino-based GPS life vest for ALABAT- GUMACA Ferry Boat Passengers with GSM

Notification was built using GPS, GSM Module, Arduino Uno. It has a feature such as button to

immediately send emergency notifications with location with a waterproof resistance to protect

the system from water. The device was evaluated by the experts as highly acceptable across all

parameters.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The researchers had successfully achieved the objectives after conducting a series of tests and

analysis in developing the Device. Based on the conclusions, the following were hereby recommended:

1. There should be another button which indicate the on and off that will operate whenever the device is

getting used.

2. The red button that indicate the Emergency notification are slightly appeared to avoid suddenly pressed.

3. There should be a jelly or rubber case in the components of the device to avoid getting wet, it should be

water resistance.

4. The user must have any information in device, meaning to say, it must have data base that collects

information in every passenger that identify whether it is safe or not.
