Beliefs and idiom
 The beliefs of the Arhauaca indigenous culture is based on polytheism, that
is, they believe in various gods which are based on nature. Example: The Sun,
Water, Earth, etc.

The Arhuacos speak the Arhuaco or Arawak


language, which is a native language of
South America, possibly originally from the
Amazon, with some dialect variations in
each town
Typical food and economy

 They grow corn, sorghum, yucca, sweet potato, squash, legumes and wild fruits, a
variety with which they prepare typical meals whose main ingredient is goat or
mutton.

 As the main economic activity, livestock, specifically cattle and sheep. The diet is
complemented by agriculture, which has its main product in the cultivation of
coffee.
Geographic location and Political Organization

 They live in the high valleys of the Piedras,


San Sebastián de Rábago, Chichicua,
Ariguaní and Guatapurí rivers, in an area
recognized by the Colombian State as a
collectively owned indigenous reservation.
 The mamo headed the structure above the
councils and was followed by the major
capes and lastly the minor capes.
Living place

 Homes vary in shape, size, and


construction material, which
depends on the climate. Some
houses are rectangular in shape,
others round with a conical roof.
The walls are made of Bahareque
and the roof of grass; some have
cement on the walls to give it a
smoother surface and zinc on the
roof.
