• 102 story it was built from 1930 to 1931
• The reason it is important is because this was during the Great Depression, which was an
economically difficult time in our country
• In addition, I have a monstrosity across the street which took 3 years to build, while this
only took about 1 year and 45 days

• The reason it was named the Empire State is because New York is nicknamed the Empire State

• The building’s height is 1,250 feet with no antenna and 1,454 feet with the antenna
• It was the world’s tallest building until 1970, when the World Trade Center was built
• The reason I mentioned the antenna is because the Empire State Building was in
competition with the Chrysler building for the world’s tallest. EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
WON in part, due to the height of its antenna
• Today it’s the 54th tallest building in the world. One Vanderbilt is now the tallest office
building in Midtown Manhattan (height of 1,401 feet)

• 4 million tourists visit the Empire State building annually

• The Empire State Building was first featured in the original King Kong movie made in 1933

• The building is so large that has its own zip code


Fun Facts:

• The building’s tip was designed as a mooring mast for dirigibles

• B-25 bomber crashed into ESB in 1945 (not done for malicious reasons)
