Multi Street betting

Because why make one mistake when you can make several!
Multi Street betting Explained…
• Poker is story telling – Preflop is the introduction; The Flop and turn are the details and
then comes the conclusion on the river! (If you expect sales you better make it good!)
• Often enough Poker requires betting multiple streets in different ways (But not every
spot requires the same strategy!
• Sometimes we favour caution with our sizes, and sometimes we don’t bet at all .. And
some situations call for hero to BULLDOZE all in their path!
• But don’t forget checking doesn’t mean we are weak or give up .. Sometimes checking
is merely the first step of an aggressive action!
Range Filtering
• When wanting to bet and keep betting think about what you are targeting value from or
what hands in villain’s range you are targeting to make fold!
• The larger you bet the narrower you make villain's continuing range
• The smaller you bet the wider you make villain's continuing range
• If you keep nuking multiple streets be cautious about what hands are left by the river
• Large sizes are often more polarised (stronger and weaker hands) and have more fold
equity .. But also jeopardise more big blinds in a bet
• Smaller sizes are often (but not always) likely to be frequently made range bets that
have wider overall ranges
SRP / 3B / 4B / 5B considerations
• The SPR (stack to pot ratio) is important when thinking about sizing's, in an ideal world
we would like to get the most value in by the river – the bigger you bet the smaller then
SPR becomes to get it all!
• Another focus is how the board / range allows you to bet – sometimes you simply cant
just keep betting big if there are a lot of scary cards coming out that can hurt you
• In SRP we can generally go larger / 3-4-5b pots we mix more smaller sizes considering
SPRS are smaller and ranges are more condensed/tighter
• Generally post flop street betting is often smaller (in general anyway) due to the smaller
average SPRs and more condensed ranges. However when deeper this can change)
Deciding which sizes to choose
• Often there can be more then one optimal size to choose in many different situations…
• Consider range vs range and who has the strongest nut edge (hero or villain may be
capped)
• Remember if theres a lot going or the board heavily favours the villain perhaps a lot of
checking or smaller sizes might be better!
• If you are not betting often on a dry board that may not hit you so well then you may
want to start checking often and sizing up your bets!
Board textures (Changing and static)
• Having a rough plan for a hand is crucial! However often board dynamics (and range
advantages can shift for the better or worse!)
• It is really important to consider how the boards may change and therefore change our
original betting pattern in favour of another
• For example you may need to factor in dynamic turns and rivers that complete 5card
draws such as straights and flushes or that pesky river might pair up rendering your
flush vulnerable!
Hammer time!
• Every good story must have its ending! And often the most valuable street can be the
river as this is more often then not the street where the most money goes in
• Don't give up on your river conclusions! If a spot needs a huge sizing as a bluff to get
the job done or a massive bet/shove to maximise value then get it done!
• As amazing as river betting is it is also wise to remember that in some situations an all-
in size may not be the best option – try to think about what hands you want to call you
or which hands need to be folded out and think about what size is appropriate to do so
Range > Exact holding
• Don’t focus too hard on only your exact holding and try to see the bigger overall picture
• On the same note try to put villain on a likely range of hands instead of 1-2 likely
combos
• If range wants to bet polar or check don’t start throwing in a bunch of weak capped
sizes with capped/faceup holdings! If a hand is in the value range then value bet it
appropriately (don’t be scared to bet wider for value and get the appropriate value for
your hand!)
Example 1 - Button vs BB (100bb SRP)

• Check/125% > check/75/125% - check/all-in

• Button has a heavy nut advantage but a wide range so a heavy polar strategy is optimal
• Because of the specific dynamic here Button will adopt a very aggressive over betting
line on multiple streets for maximum value / fold equity
• When considering river range filtering only the very best value / weakest appropriate
combos will be selected to complete the river Jam
• Button is targeting an extremely large amount of folds by the river up to and including
almost all one pair non improved Ax from the BB
• Most alternative sizes will ruin SRP and reduce the likelihood of optimal success in this
line (losing value / not attaining maximum fold equity)
Example 2 – HJ vs UTG (100BB 3B)

• Check often/50%/75% > check/10-33%/50% > check/85%/all-in

• HJ vs UTG 3b is more condensed in both ranges (tighter and stronger)

• The Low connected board slightly favours UTG however uncommon and HJ maintains higher
OP leverage (KK/AA)
• Larger flop Cbetting more optimal as smaller range betting is a mistake due to the overall
range interaction – Turn flush splits range into heavy check or small-medium sizes with mostly
Hx combos / value/bluffs
• River sizes preferred are very large and jam split between highest over pairs with a heart + /
bluffs (pairs preferring large and flushes preferring jam with bluffs mixing)
Example 3 – UTG vs BB (100bb SRP)

• Check often/10-33%/50% > check often/10-33%/50% > check often/150%/300%/all-in

• UTG must be extremely careful on low connected boards as BB has a tremendous nut
advantage with sets/2p/straights and flushes ESPCIALLY on a monotone flop
• UTG will mix a lot of checks and very small – medium sizes with full range (favouring club x
combos
• On the turn the same principle applies – 6x turn is favouring the BB so again UTG will check
mostly then choose smaller – medium size bets
• On the river the game completely changes as the 2 completely disincentivises UTG to bet
anything for value under a 6. (even over pairs) so now UTG prefers a lot of check backs or
extremely polar bet sizes (mostly over bets up to all-in!)
