THE NURSE’S ROLE IN HEALTH PROMOTION

Ns. Elfrida Simamora, S. Kep.,M. Kep

Summary
Nurses play an important role in promoting
public health. Traditionally, the focus of
health promotion by nurses has been on
disease prevention and changing the behavior
of individuals with respect to their health.
However, their role as promoters of health is
more complex, since they have multi-
disciplinary knowledge and experience of
health promotion in their nursing practice.

case finders, liaisons and coordinators, executors of nursing counseling and role models.

“HEALTH PROMOTION IN
THE PREVENTION OF
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE”
“INTRODUCTION”

Global estimates suggest that 35% of women worldwide have experienced some form
of domestic violence, the vast majority of which is intimate partner violence. As far as
its health impacts go, domestic violence is considered a significant public health
problem, where the human, social and economic costs outweigh the costs of smoking.
There is no doubt that domestic violence is a problem that requires serious attention and
because of its complexity and wide manifestations, this requires an integrated multi-
sector response, especially the health sector which is a role model in responding to and
preventing it.
