Steps Involved in Mine

Planning Study
Mine planning is iterative process. The 1st
iteration starts quite primitively and
successive iterations are characterized by
having different aims, progressively
increasing reliability in the result, and
different detail in the cost derived from
them. Nevertheless, the basic steps
involved in undertaking them are quite
similar, and can be summarized as:
1.Estabish guidelines for undertaking study
2.Determine the extend of (potential) mining
reserves to be blocked out for study (Limit
Assessment – Physical Limits and
Economic Limits)
3.Determine the mining method to be used

4. Prepare a mine layout, with the mining
reserves subdivided into blocks of size
and shape consistent with the mining
method and degree of reliability sought
5. Determine the geological, mining and
other characteristics of the mining
blocks
6. Select the equipment and/or production
rate to be used for mining the blocked
out reserve. Determine the production
rates and the constraints on usage of
the equipment
7. Determine quantities, qualities, and
resource requirement for the mining
overtime (mine scheduling)

8. Establish the unit costs of operating the
equipment and the estimate revenue
from sale of the products
9. Apply unit costs to he equipment and
other resources required, determine
mine operating costs over time
10. Establish equipment life, timing of
replacements and capex overtime
11. Prepare financial or other economic
analysis cost schedules
12. Make decision
