problems involving different types of
numerical expressions and equations
such as 7+ 9 =___ + 6. (M6AL-IIIf-19)
• Creates routine and non-routine
problems involving numerical
expressions and equations. (M6AL-IIIf-

Drill: Determine what number
should be in place of the
question mark to make the
mathematical statement
correct.
1.? + 7=11
2.96/? = 6
3.2 x (15-?) = 20
4.5 x (? + 2) =15
5.? + 3 = 21 - ?
Review: Translate the ff.
sentences to algebraic equations
1.Twice a number is equal to six.
2.If three times a number is
decreased by two, the answer is
seven.
3.The ratio of a number and ten is
two.
4.Half of the sum of a number
and three is six
5.The difference of seven and a
number is equal to six times the
number.
Establishing a purpose
Impress your pupils by
being able to guess the number
they are thinking of. Ask a pupil to
think of any number from 1-10.
Have it undergo a series
of operations and have the pupil
update the answer in his mind in
every operation done.
a. Presenting Example:
Ige is twice as old as his brother
Elmo. The sum of their ages is 21. How
old are theynow?
Present the ways in solving equations
in the form ax + b = c.
use 2x + 3 = 7 as an example
 Guess and test
 Cover Up
 Work Backward
 Balancing Method
Define the ff. term:
 Solution- a number that makes
an algebraic equation true or
correct.
Introduce the 4 basic rules for
solving equations.
1.Addition Property of Equality: if
the same quantity is added to
both sides of an equation, the
resulting equation is equivalent
to the original equation.
2.Subtraction Property of Equality:
If the same quantity is subtracted
from both sides, the resulting
equation is equivalent to the
original.
3.Multiplication Property of
Equality: If both sides of an
equation are multiplied by the
same (nonzero) quantity, the
resulting equation is equivalent to
the original equation.
4. Division Property of
Equality: If both sides of an
equation are divided by the
same (nonzero) quantity, the
resulting equation is equivalent
to the original equation.
Solve using different
methods.
1.N + 5 = -5
2.5y – 2 = 18
3.C + 18 = 29
4.-32 = 15 + d
5. 3f = -12
Solve using different
methods.(key to
correction)
1.N + 5 = -5 Ans.:N=-
10
2.5y – 2 = 18 Ans.:y=4
3.C + 18 = 29
Ans.:C=11
4.-32 = 15 + d Ans: d=-
Practicing New Skills No. 2

Study another example:

Find the value of – 4 =10

-3 ( – 4) = (10) (-3) multiplying both sides

by
-3. (MPE)
2n + 12 = -30
2n + 12 – 12 = -30 -12 Subtract 12 from both
sides (SPE)
2n= -42
= Divide both sides by 2 (DPE)

Group Activity:
B. Find the solution to each
equation.
6. 9x + 3 = 48
7. 3b + 14 = 29
8. 4n – 10 = 38
Group Activity:
B. Find the solution to each
equation. Key to Correction
6. 9x + 3 = 48 Answer: X= 5
7. 3b + 14 = 29 Answer: b= 5
8. 4n – 10 = 38 Answer:
n=12
F. Developing Mastery
Group Activity:
Assigned the given examples
on page 239-246 of Mathlete
Txbk. Let the leaders of the
group explain the assigned
problems to them.
G. Finding practical application
Give the scenarios and tell the pupils to follow this flow in solving the
equation: (See TG on page 96)
a. What is asked?
b. What are the given facts?
c. What equation shall we do to solve the problem? What is the
solution to the equation?

every 2 weeks for him to meet the quota requirement. On the first
week., he sold 453 dozens. How many more dpzens of eggs does
Mang Ambo need to sell to meet the quota?
2. The price of a 32” LED television iiis P15,500.00 less than twice the
price of an old model. If it cost P29,078.00 to buy a new 32”LED
television, what is the price of the old model
TANDAAN: Ang pagkakaisa ng mga
mamamayan sa isang bansa ay
mahalaga tungo sa kaunlaran.
Magkakaiba man ang kanilang salita,
estado sa buhay at pananaw ito ay
nagsisilbing bigkis. Mahalagang
pagyamanin ito sa pamamagitan ng
pakikilahok. Bilang batang marunong
makiisa, ito ay maaaring umpisahan sa
ating sariling paaralan kung saan
naipakikita natin ang pakikiisa sa

H. Making Generalizations
What are the four basic rules in solving equations?
An algebraic expression is any combination of
numbers constant and variables with operations
such as addition, subtraction, multiplication or
division.
To evaluate an expression means to find a number
solution to the expression, given the value of the
variables.
To simplify an expression means to make it simple
or shorter by combining like terms in the
expressions.
Evaluate:Write and solve the equation for
