villages
• Urban markets are crowded and saturated
• The understanding of “rural” is diffused and sometimes confusing
• Is “rural marketing” different from “urban marketing” ?
Definition of Rural India
• Census of India: habitation with a population density less than 400 sq.km, where at
least 75 percent of male working population is engaged in agriculture. Minimum
population < 5000.

• Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA): habitation with a


population density less than 400 sq.km, where at least 25 percent of male working
population is engaged in non-agricultural activities. Minimum population < 5000.

• Limitations: It doesn't consider population having > 5000 as rural

Developing of the market in the area as defined as Rural.

Hence it could be aptly said that it encompasses the Activities such


as developing the process to meet this Objective – Right product at
the right price to the right people at the right time.

Exchange between rural and Urban is a Factor.
