CHU TEH-CHUN | No.

268
No.268 (Lot 1009) is a unique masterpiece from the 1960s amongst works by
Chu Teh-Chun (1920-2014). His paintings were quite small at the time
because his studio in Menilmontant was quite limited in space. He was
studying in National School of Fine Art in China, and subsequently travelled to
France. After his movement to Paris he changed his mind to make an abstract
pieces. However, he always continued studying Chinese calligraphy and had
idea to revive Oriental art. Moreover, he was inspired by the Abstract painter
Nicolas de Staël. Chu Teh Chun was an instant success with his new found
direction. A lot of the works of Chu The Chun then inspired younger
generations to fill gaps in Chinese art.
This painting was made in the period when Chu The-Chun was offered a Chu Teh-Chun
special affinity to the Alps. Because of that, the inspiration for this artwork No. 268
was taken from snowy mountains and we can see a lot of blue and green Signed in Chinese and Pinyin, dated 67-68
colors in his paintings. Oil on canvas
150.2 by 300.5 cm

Influence on my work:
I decided to take dark colors and chinese landscapes to make my own art
piece. This work really inspired me to make experiments with landscapes and
Ukarainian architectures.
