APPLICATION LETTER & CV

BAHASA INGGRIS SMK


KELAS XII SEMESTER GANJIL
KD 3.2, 4.2.1, & 4.2.2
Please take your time and read the letter below.
Now please answer the following questions.
That letter is what we call an application letter. Do
you know what we call it in Indonesian or Bahasa
Indonesia?

Remember, in less than a year you will have graduated from SMK.
If you do not plan to continue your study to a college or university,
you have to know how to write an application letter.
Psst! Untuk 10 pertanyaan di atas, kalian tidak harus
mengirimkan jawabannya. Cukup untuk latihan pemahaman
bacaan bagi kalian. Tapi kalau memang penasaran atau ingin
mendiskusikannya, boleh direspon lewat menu
“response”pada Google Classroom. Supaya tidak boros pulsa
paketannya.

Structure of an Application Letter

1. Sender’s address

2. Inside address

3. Salutation
4. Opening paragraph

5. Middle paragraph

6. Closing paragraph

7. Name & signature


Sender’s Address

This is where you write your full name, address,


phone number, or how you can be contacted.
Below this you put in the date of the letter.

Inside Address

This is the receiver’s address where you write the


address of the company or organization (e.g.
hotel, villa, or restaurant) that you send your
letter to; also the name of the person (if you
know it) and his/her department (e.g. HRD or
Personnel Department.)

Salutation

If you do not know the name of the person that


you send your letter to, you better just write
“Dear Sir/Madam.”

Opening Paragraph

Here, you state the purpose of your letter (e.g. to apply


for a specific position or maybe just to inquire if there is a
vacant position that you can apply for.)

If you know there is a vacant post there, You should


mention the resources (e.g. from advertisement in
newspaper, job agency, or information from one of the
employees there.)

Middle Paragraph

In this section, you should highlight your


qualification, educational background and/or
work experience that match the job description
of the position that you apply for.

Closing Paragraph

In this section, you should express your


expectation about the reader’s response. For
example you state that you are ready for an
interview or you are waiting for a reply.

Name & Signature

Here, you close the letter with “sincerely” if you know the
name of the person you send your letter to. If you don’t
know his/her name, you use ”faithfully.”

After that, you put in your signature and full name.
