 THE BLESSING OF ABRAHAM
• Gal 3:14 says that Jesus died that the blessing of Abraham should come
upon us
• This blessing has come upon the church and so to us

 WHAT IS THE BLESSING OF
ABRAHAM?
• Genesis 15 – Covenant of faith
• Genesis 12:1-3
• You will be great
• Your name will be great
• You will bless all people
• We are anointed (Gal 3:14) to be a blessing to people
• Primarily by sharing the gospel
• Matt 25:31-46 by our generosity
• Fruit of the Spirit – your character
• Are we a blessing or a problem?
• How do people perceive you?
• What can we learn from Abraham?

 SEPARATION
• What was Terah’s age at Abraham’s birth? Gen 11:26
• How old was Abraham when Terah died? Gen 11:32
• How old was Abraham in Gen 12:1-3? Gen 12:4
• Was Terah alive or dead when Abraham entered Palestine?
• What did Stephen mean in Acts 7:4? Gen 12:1-3, Josh 24:2
• We need to separate our lives from those who are dead – Gen 12:1, I Peter 4:4,
Paul II Cor 6:14-16
• What about Jesus mixing with sinners? Paul I Cor 5:9-10
• We do the reverse and so cease to be a blessing

 STAY WHERE GOD HAS CALLED
YOU TO BE
• What did Abraham find in the promised land? Gen 12:10
• How did he respond?
• What did he get in Egypt? Gen 13:2, Gen 16:1
• What did the wealth do to his relationship with Lot?
• What did Hagar do to his relationship with Sarah?
• We also find famine in our area as believers
• How do we respond?
• Do we stay in the land of promise or go to the land of com-promise?
• If we are to be a blessing we need to be in the promised land. examples

 DO NOT CLAIM YOUR RIGHTS
• How did Abraham respond to Lot? Gen 13:9
• Did he claim his rights?
• How did God respond to Abraham? Gen 13:14
• We are to be a blessing and let God give us all that we need Matt 6:33

 IMPATIENCE
• Gen 15 God repeats His promise
• Gen 15:6 Abraham believes God and it is the basis of his salvation Rom
4:3
• Gen 16 A human effort at God’s work – age 85-86

 GOD OR MINISTRY?
• Gen 17 After 13 years God tells him that this is not the work I was
looking for
• God had promised Abraham a family and descendants
• Abraham’s family for 13 years was Ishmael – cast him out Gen 21:10
• Are you willing to accept that all you have done is wrong?
• Do not let monuments to human effort become your identity

 MINISTRY THE GREATEST
TEMPTATION
• God tests Abraham again – sacrifice Isaac
• Are you willing to put your life work on the line?
• If you are to be a blessing you need to be totally focused on God and
Him alone

 ARE YOU A BLESSING?
• Who do you spend your time with?
• Are you where God wants you to be? Geographic, spiritual
• Have you stopped running after the world and cast yourself on God?
• Don’t be disappointed, be faithful
• Have you steered clear of the temptation of success in ministry?
