OVERVIEW
Derived from the Greek word “ethos”,
which means “way of living”,
Ethics is a branch of philosophy that is
concerned with human conduct, more
specifically the behaviour of individuals in
society.
Ethics examines the rational justification for our
moral judgments;
What is ethics
Ethics examines the rational justification for
our moral judgments; it studies what is
morally right or wrong, just or unjust.
In a broader sense, ethics reflects on human
beings and their interaction with nature and
with other humans, on freedom, on
responsibility and on justic.
Example of Ethics
• Refers to those standards that impose the
reasonable obligations to refrain from
•  rape,
• stealing,
• murder,
• assault,
• slander, and fraud.
• Ethical standards also include those that enjoin
virtues of honesty, compassion, and loyalt

Business ethics
• Business ethics is the prescribed code of
conduct for businesses.
• It is a set of guidelines for dealing with
various procedures ethically. The discipline
comprises corporate responsibility, personal
responsibility, social responsibility, loyalty,
fairness, respect, trustworthiness, and
technology ethics

• There are seven principles of business ethics including


•  Accountability,
• Care
• Respect,
• Honesty,
• Healthy competition,
• Loyalty, transparency,
• Respect for the rule of law.
Example
• An example of a personal code of ethics is as
follows:
•  A person chooses to return a wallet that
they found on the ground to lost and found
rather than keep it for themselves due to
their personal ethic of honesty.
