The law of conservation of mass, also known as Lavoisier's law, states that in any physical or chemical change,
the total mass of the reactants (the substances present at the start of the reaction) must equal the total
mass of the products (the substances formed as a result of the reaction).
In other words, the total amount of matter in a closed system remains constant during a chemical reaction.

Lavoisier's contributions to the atomic theory helped to lay the foundation
for modern chemistry and revolutionized the way scientists understood
chemical reactions and the composition of matter.
