Using Connectives

I can use ‘although’, ‘even though’ and ‘despite’


accurately in a sentence.
Using these connectives

Today we will be learning to use certain


connectives:

 although
 even though
 despite
Although, Even Though, Despite

 These connectives are higher level connectives that can be


used in lots of genres of writing.
 They work by using opposite things in a sentence.
 Here are some examples:
Even though it was sunny, he wore a thick coat.
Although it was sunny, he wore a thick coat.
Despite the sunny weather, he wore a thick coat.

In sunny weather you would usually wear a THIN coat.


Here, the opposite (a THICK coat) is used.
Although, Even Though, Despite

 Here’s another example:

Although he had enough money, he refused to buy a


car.
He refused to buy a car, even though he had
enough money.
 Again these are opposites.
