Art Critique Name: __The Farmers _( Philippines,1995)_ Fernando Amorsolo

1. DESCRIBE

What things do you see in the artwork? Explain everything you see even if you don’t know what it is.

The painting depicts a group of cheerful Filipino peasants working on their farm. To protect themselves
from the sun, the farmers wore Filipiñana and Camisa de chino, a popular Philippine dress and headwear
known as salakot. There were four men bending over, one woman seated, and two people standing, all
planting rice, with one man holding a carabao. The wonderfully symmetrical cone of Mayon volcano,
located in the province of Albay, Philippines, rises behind them, emitting a peaceful plume of steam, and
you can see it is full of green color due to the rice plants and trees.

2. ANALYZE

How are lines, shapes, colors, and textures used in the piece of art?

The artwork depicts several greens that are very pleasing to the eye, as well as the textures of the plants
and volcano. A more accurate replica of a human being seen in water is also shown in the drawing. The
designer used a brilliant white pigment for the human clothes. The reality was discovered by unity,
order, and perfection in this painting.

3. INTERPRET

What is going on in the artwork? What is the purpose of the piece?

The artwork, in my opinion, depicts the Filipino national character as embedded in agricultural societies
and village life cycles. It also demonstrates that women have always done men's jobs, which I believe
they love doing because of the gorgeous surroundings and volcano.

4. DECIDE

Do you like this piece of art? Why or Why not? What is the best thing about this piece? What is

the worst thing about this piece?

This is a nice and beautiful painting because it depicts the lives of Filipinos and the elegance of the
Mayon Volcano. It also demonstrates how artistic reality can be found in unity, order, and beauty.
because of the practical reflection of humans in water the hardest part of this article is that it is both a
man's and a woman's job.
