The limestone rock in the Burren is not hard rock so water cuts channels through
it on the surface. These channels create gaps (called grikes) on the flat surface of
the slabs of limestone rock (clints). This creates a very unusual appearance on
the surface of the land.

worn away the

limestone and this
is released during
the winter.
The Gulf Stream
