RELATED TERMS AND ITS DEFINITIONS

1. THEOLOGY
Theology comes from two Greek
words ‘theos’ (God) and ‘logos’
(study). Theology refers to the
study of God, his relation to
humankind and the world.
It can also be defined as ‘a
rational (logical) interpretation of
religious faith, practice and
experience.
Theology is a sort of reflective
inquiry which arises out of peoples’
search for their engagement with
the ultimate, the beyond.
Theology happens when religion
begins to ask question.
2. Belief
It is an intellectual act of thinking
affirmatively.
Example: The Nicene Creed
(325C.E.) or Apostles Creed of the
Christian faith affirming on
doctrines rather than on the
performance of actions.
It also refers to a system of faith
and worship.
3. Faith
It is a strong belief in God or in the
doctrines of a religion, based on
spiritual apprehension rather than
proof.
Faith is the assurance of things
hoped for, the conviction of things
not seen (Biblical definition)
Example: We believe there is God
even though we did not see him.
4. PRAYER
is an invocation or act that seeks to activate
a rapport with an object of worship through
deliberate communication.
It also refers to an act of supplication or
intercession directed towards a deity or a
deified ancestor.
Prayer is responding to God, by
thoughts and by deeds, with or
without words.
5. Worship
An action of glorifying and
revering God.
Example: Praying to God, doing
good works, etc.
