Actions

Glucocorticoid actions

• Carbohydrate metabolism: Gluconeogenesis(+);glycogen synthase(+);peripheral glucose utilization(-)

hyperglycaemia;insulin resistance; diabetes-like state

• Protein metabolism: AA mobilization from peripheral tissuesprotein breakdownS/E like muscle

wasting,thinning of skin

• Fat metabolism: lipolysis(+)redistribution of body fat occurssubcutaneous tissues over extremities lose
fatdeposited over face(moon facies), neck and shoulder(buffalo hump)

Mineralocorticoid actions

• Na K fluid balance
• Aldosterone(+)reabsorption of Na+ from DCT of
kidney associated K+ , H+ excretion↑
• Aldosterone↓  dilutional hyponatremia
• ↑↑mineralocorticoids fluid retention, hypertension
CORTICOSTEROIDS
Have an anti-inflammatory action.
• Suppress the immune response.
• Suppress the response of tissue to injury.
• Delay wound healing
