SHIRK
• “Verily! Joining others in worship with Allah is a great zulm (wrong) indeed”. 31/13
• “Verily! Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with Him in worship, but
He forgives any other sin, but he may not forgive considering partners with Allah”.
4/48
Why Is Associating Partners With Allah
Regarded As A Great Sin?
• Shirk is belief that the source of power, harm and blessings comes from others
besides Allah and it is taking away Allah’s uniqueness
• This would lead to destruction of all pillars of Islam as prayer, fasting, Hajj and
zakat, all are performed for Allah’s orders but shirk will take away the essence
of worship, and relationship between creator and creation.
HOW ALLAH COMMUNICATES WITH US?
Allah Prophets
Humans
“It is not fitting for a man that Allah should speak to him except by inspiration, or from
behind a veil, or by the sending of a Messenger to reveal, with Allah’s permission what
Allah wants”. (Surah Ash-Shura 51)
PROPHETHOOD/RISALAT
• In literal term, Risalat derived from the word Rasal which means to send.
• In Islamic terms, it means to convey the message of God to his worshippers.
• To set an example/ role model
• References
• ‘For We assuredly sent amongst every people an apostle’. (Surah Al-Nahl 36)
• ‘Those who deny Allah and His apostles, and (those who) wish to separate
Allah from His apostles, say : ‘We believe in some but reject others’, and
(those who) wish to take a course midway. They are in truth (equally)
unbelievers. (Surah An-Nisaa 150-151)
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NABI AND
RASOOL
‘This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you,
and have chosen for you Islam as your religion’. (Surah Al Maidah 3)
ANGELS/MALAIKA
• Guidance
• Noor (light)
• Leading from Darkness to light
• Wisdom
• Furqan (guidance on judgement and justice)
• Appeals to reason
• Mercy
• A guard against evil
• A clear explanation
• Warning to non-Believers
AKHIRAT
• Al-akhira means the end, the hereafter. It refers to the end of this material
existence that we have on the earth, and all that follows after.
• Stages of the Soul
1. Life before conception
2. Life in this world (dunya)
3. Death
4. Life in the grave
5. Day of Judgement (Yawm al Qiyama)
6. Paradise and the Hell
• Death is one of the few things in this life that everyone has certainty of, yet we treat it as if it
was something doubtful.
• “Every soul will taste of death. And you will be paid on the Day of Resurrection only that
which you have fairly earned. Who so is removed from the Fire and is made to enter
Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is but comfort of illusion.” Al-Imran
(The Family of Imran) , 3:185
• At the time of death, angels descend to take the dying person’s soul, and the person can see
the angels. A believer’s soul will leave his body easily, while the non-believer’s soul will
leave his body with difficulty.
• The believer will look forward to entering his grave, while the non- believer will not.
• A person enters into this temporary stage from the time the soul leaves the body, to the time
of resurrection. This time in the grave is known as Barzakh.
• Our souls will wait in our graves until the Day of Judgment
• Upon entering the grave, the soul is squeezed by the grave in a painful embrace.
• Every soul is questioned in the grave with three questions:
• Who is your Lord?
• What is your religion?
• Who is your prophet?
DAY OF JUDGMENT
• Known as Yawm al-Qiyama (day of Resurrection) or Yawm id-Deen (day when the debts fall
due)
• Signs of the Day of Judgment
• Minor signs
Many scholars agree these have all come to pass
• Major signs (examples)
• Arrival of Prophet Isa (PBUH)
• The sun will rise in the west and set in the east
When will it come?
When asked when the Day of Judgment would be, the Prophet Muhammad (s) replied, “The one
who is asking knows as much as the one who is being asked.”
• The Archangel Israfil blows the trumpet
• Every human soul is resurrected
• All souls are gathered, and their deeds brought before them
• The Balance and the Bridge
• Deeds will be weighed on a balance. Even the smallest of deeds will be weighed.
• A bridge (Sirat) will be thrown across the Hellfire, and mankind will forced to cross it.
• It will be sharper than a sword, narrower than a hair, and people will have to cross it with
their deeds.
• • The Hawd (lake)
• Believers will reach the Hawd, or lake, of the Prophet Muhammad (s), and drink from it.
When they drink, their thirst will vanish.
• Paradise and the Hellfire
• Either Paradise or the Hellfire will be our last destination.
• This stage of the soul’s life is eternal.
