International Law

• Word ‘inter’- means ‘between’


• International Law- ‘law between the nations’.
• System of treaties & agreements b/w nations- governs- how
nations interact with other nations, citizens of other nations
& business of other nations.
• Includes- standards of int. behavior, laws of the sea,
economic law, diplomatic law, env. Law, human rights law,
humanitarian law
• Some principles- written/ codified- in series of treaties but
others- not written- known as Customary Laws & nations
consent to them by doing nothing.
Municipal Law
• National/domestic/internal law of sovereign
state.
• Includes many levels of Law- not only national
Law but also state/ provincial/ territorial/
regional/ local law.
• Law specific- particular city/ country & Govt.
bodies within- cities/ countries.
• Acts – by legislature/ law making authority of
State- applicable to that State alone.
